Pen Y Llan Commuminty Garden gets a Dandy Donation...

Pen Y Llan Community Garden is a community run project based in Pen Y Llan Court in Connah’s Quay. The garden is maintained completely by volunteers and the residents of the surrounding flats.

Dandy's have donated 1/2 a tonne of Bordermix Topsoil to the garden, which is coming along really well.

Nathan Jones of Golftyn Ward said: "It’s a brilliant way of tackling lots of social issues such as loneliness and isolation. It has brought people together and lots of the residents now speak to each other on a regular basis because of the work they have done in the garden.  The garden gives them almost a collective responsibility to look after it which helps foster good community relations. We have a mixture of young and old helping out which brings different generations together. The young groups who come and help out really enjoy learning new skills.

It helps to keep people active and gets people outdoors. The flowers that have been planted also attract insects and other wildlife which is good for the local area. For those who are not able to help it makes a great place to relax. The garden is fully wheelchair accessible and has raised beds to allow people of all abilities to get involved. We have hosted community events and we hope to continue to bring the community together. The list of good things just goes on and on... Overall it has made the flats a more pleasant, peaceful and safe place to live which is good for everyone involved."

"I’d just like to say a big thanks to all the team at Dandy’s for supporting us, without your kind donations a lot of the work we do wouldn’t be possible. It’s always hugely appreciated!"

Councillor Paul Shotton of the Golftyn Ward said: "We do need more volunteers, but it is good to see tenants getting involved and growing their own flowers and their own veg and there is an abundance of vegetables.

Residents have taken this on board and it is absolutely fantastic. It's about getting that community together and I think what they're doing is absolutely fantastic.

They get themselves together and it's nice to see the community spirit."
