Dandy's Topsoil; Britain's leading topsoil supplier had a rather unusual customer this week as it was asked to supply decorative gravel to a few of the guests at Peckforton Castle near Chester, Cheshire.

The gravel, a 1-5mm grit stone, was ordered for a rather special set of residents at the historic hotel venue; Elfie a beautiful Golden Eagle with a 6ft wing span, Jake, Zeal and Chav the Harris Hawks, Nelson the Peregrine Falcon, Dusty the Barn Owl and a whole host of other birds and beasties.

The gravel was used as an alternative to cat litter in the birds open cages and on the footpaths around the outdoor aviaries.
Partner and founder of Peckforton Castle's Falconry display team, Jimmi, said; "We chose Dandy's as they were the most competitive on price and were able to provide a fast, efficient delivery service. The use of gravel rather than cat litter or shavings etc means that we are able to wash off the aggregate rather than having to constantly replace the material. This in turn means less disturbance and stress for the birds."

Jimmi is currently filming for the BBC in South Africa for what is set be the BBC's next big contestant vote off show, which is due to be broadcast in the Autumn.

The falconry display is the perfect introduction to the world of birds of prey at an idyllic location. On arrival at the castle guests receive a welcome tea or coffee and the falconer then introduces you to the magnificent collection of birds.

The action soon starts when you begin flying the bird’s right in front of the castle. Birds can include one of our Barn Owls gliding effortlessly to your glove or a Harris Hawk soaring above your head from the castle towers.
