Renowned Award Winning Garden Designer Thomas Hoblyn used Dandys Organic Top Soil , Lawn Turf and Crushed Decorative Slate Mulch when designing and building his garden at Chelsea this year.
Trained at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, Tom set up a successful garden design company in Suffolk. Last year he won his third consecutive RHS gold medal, this time at Chelsea Flower Show. Work takes him far and wide and he has just returned from India having begun work on a large landscape that forms part of the grounds for a Hindu temple.
On Press Day at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2009, Toms' Garden saw personal appearances from environmental activist and Conservative Party parliamentary candidate Zac Goldsmith, and up-and-coming singer-songwriter VV Brown, who performed a song on the garden's redwood deck, built from a windfall tree that also forms the garden's defining ‘waves of change' sculpture. Wetland gardens are rarely seen at Chelsea, but here Tom Hoblyn has taken as his inspiration the bogs of both East Anglia and North Carolina in a garden celebrating one of the world’s most fragile habitats.
From a pool surrounded by trees rises a sloping bog garden featuring a mix of British and North Carolina native plants, many of which are rare and endangered. Bog oak, swamp cypress and pitcher plants are all highly specialised plants, here intermixed with successful British species such as spikerush and common rush. Collectively they highlight vulnerability versus adaptation in the plant world.
Managing Director Adam Dandy said "Our products speak for themselves, Tom and his team needed stunning unique garden products which would win the judges admiration, it is because of designers such as Tom, that many hundreds and thousands of people each year are inspired to create their own piece of Chelsea in their own garden and it is because of this we decided to provide our services at no cost on this occasion, we were proud to help build such an excellent garden".
